50 Word Non-Fiction: Scotland's Stories of Hope
Can you write a story of hope in just 50 words?
In May, we're running a very special writing project that combines our monthly 50 Word Fiction competition and our annual call for Scotland's Stories, which this year focuses on the theme of hope.
We're asking people in Scotland to send us a 50 word non-fiction story about their real-life experiences of hope.
Write your story of hope
When you think of hope, where does it take you?
To a new opportunity, challenge or place? To your afternoon cuppa? To the moments that brought you to where you are today?
For more inspiration on the theme and to find writing prompts, visit our About Scotland's Stories page.
Our 50 Word Fiction competition is also running as usual in May – head over to this month's competition page to find out more.
Get involved
Even if you've never written before, we'd love to hear from you! We welcome entries in Gaelic, Scots and English.
Submit your 50 Word Non-Fiction story using the form below. The deadline for submissions is Tuesday 28 May.
Every entry will appear on our website and our favourite pieces will be published in a free book distributed during Book Week Scotland (18–24 November 2024), our national celebration of books and reading.
Entrants can contact info@scottishbooktrust.com(this link will open in a new window) to remove their submission from the website at any point.
Please note: We can only publish stories written by those over the age of 16. Full terms and conditions apply.
If you've found it difficult to write about something personal and you'd like to talk to someone about it, there are organisations that offer help and support.
