The nurse is using a butterfly needle today –
perched almost weightless atop a hand furled into a fist,
its green wings iridescent in the fluorescent lighting
of the health centre hothouse,
metallic tongue gliding into the rare ruby nectar
that flows beneath my skin.
Gaelic writers winner
Sophie Croxall
Bha innliche ann a rinn rudan neònach, bòidheach agus seunta. Rinn e creutair le sgiathan fìnealta, agus pheant e dubh e, le stràcan dearga agus spotan geala. Bha e mìorbhaileach, mar shìthiche, ach cha b' urrainn dha itealaich air falbh. Aon latha, bhuail an dealanach e, agus thàinig e beò.
