Which Books Made the Best Movies?

Tim Robbins in The Shawshank Redemption
Category: Reading

From the earliest days of cinema, Hollywood has been adapting books into movies. Some have been terrible mistakes, but others have not only been successful; they've become almost legendary in their greatness. Gone with the Wind, which was once thought to be unfilmable, went on to become the highest grossing film in history. The Godfather was a rare case where the movie actually ended up being better than the book it was based on, and Stephen King's Four Seasons gave us two great films--The Shawshank Redemption and Stand By Me.

In honour of the four book adaptations up for a Best Picture Academy Award this Sunday, we're creating a list of books that made great movies, and we'd love to have your input! Did you love Lincoln, Lord of the Rings, or LA Confidential? Did Fight Club change your life or did you fall for the creepy atmosphere of Rebecca? Share your favourites in the comments below and we'll post the top picks on Monday!
