10 Brilliant Events for Bookbug Week 2018

Bookbug Week is just around the corner (14-20 May)! To help celebrate Bookbug’s Friends, there are lots of free song, story and rhyme events happening across Scotland. You can find out what’s happening in your area by using our event search, but in the meantime, here are just a few of the fantastic events taking place:

1. Authors Live with Ross Collins, 17 May

Join us for a special Bookbug Week broadcast featuring award-winning author and illustrator, Ross Collins. Ross will be sharing his book, There's a Bear on my Chair, and telling us how he illustrates his wonderful, comic characters. Have your pencil and paper ready! Sign up to watch at home or at nursery with your little ones and be entered into our prize draw to win a bundle of Ross Collins books.

2. Multi-lingual Bookbug Session - Portree Community Library, 15 May

Join in a very special Bookbug Session for Bookbug Week. There will be a variety of songs, stories and rhymes in Gaelic, Japanese, German, Czech and English! Everyone will have the chance to learn one song all together in all of the languages!

3. Bookbug Mini Makers do Matisse, Rozelle House, 15 May

Rozelle House has invited all of Bookbug's little friends to come out to the park for a fun-filled time! Take in a Bookbug Session before exploring Matisse Magic Garden - tents, a den, mirrors, ribbon weaving and lots of sensory surprises. Then, join us in the gallery to view the Matisse exhibition before creating your very own masterpiece!

4. Special Bookbug Session - St Francis Centre, Glasgow, 15 May

Celebrate Bookbug's Friends with a special Bookbug event! Come and join in the fun with Bookbug and friends, Tony Tooth and Koala Chef. In partnership with Health Improvement. Suitable for 0-4.

5. Bookbug and Animal Friends - Shetland Museum Auditorium, 18 May

Join Bookbug for a special Bookbug Week Session inspired by Hans Holbein the Younger's painting, 'A Lady with a Squirrel and a Starling' at the Shetland Museum.

6. Intergenerational Bookbug Session, Kirriemuir, 18 May

Celebrate Bookbug's Friends in this special event at the Dementia Garden in Kirriemuir. There will be fun for everyone in this joint event with Angusalive Libraries and local Adult Dementia Group, including a special visit from Bookbug!

7. Special Bookbug Session, Central Children's Library, Dundee, 14 May

Babies, toddlers and young children are all invited to come along to a special Bookbug Session celebrating friends! Stay to chat, make new friends and borrow books at the end too!

8. Family Storytime Workshop - Mastrick Library, 16 May

Colin and Lee Carrot and Pea
Celebrate Bookbug Week with a Family Storytime Workshop with Scottish-based author and illustrator, Morag Hood. Morag is the author of Colin and Lee, Carrot and Pea, a simple but heartwarming picture book about friendship. Suitable for ages 3-7.

9. Big Bookbug Week Friends Event, Clarkston Hall, 15 May

All children aged 0-4 are invited along with their parents and carers to come and celebrate Bookbug Week at Clarkston Hall. Author Lizzie Finnigan will be joining too - get ready for a few surprises!

10. Baby STEM at Bookbug, Granton Library, 18 May

Granton Library are hosting a special one-off Bookbug STEM Session (science, technology, engineering, maths) with their new friend, Dr Kirsty Ross from Strathclyde University. This is a drop-in event, so pop along at any point between 10.30 and 12.00pm.

 

Don’t worry if you can’t make it to a special Bookbug event – there are plenty of ways that you and your little ones can join in at home. The most important thing is that everyone has fun celebrating Bookbug’s Friends!
