During a whirlwind tour of the UK after the release of her most recent book, Lady Midnight, we managed to grab a few moments with the exceptionally talented Cassandra Clare, author of The Mortal Instruments and The Infernal Devices series, and she gave us a rapid-fire Author Confession.

Am I aware that demons and vampires are really real?!

Lady Midnight. It’s the most recent one and you always hope your most recent work is your best.

Books of Wonder in NYC
Is writing a pain or a pleasure?
A little of both.
What’s your most extreme research story?
I almost got arrested trying to get in to the abandoned Renwick Small Pox Hospital in NYC when I was researching City of Bones.

Jaws
What would your dream job be if you weren’t an author?
Travel journalist
What’s your most prized possession?
A collection of original issues of The Strand containing the original Sherlock Holmes stories.
