Rebel: Submit Your Stories Now!

Category: Reading

Calling all rebels!

This year we're looking for stories on the theme of Rebel.

While we may not always be aware of it, rebellion forms a massive part of our everyday lives. Whether it’s hitting that snooze button just one more time, putting off an important email or organising a protest march, we all rebel in our own way.

So worry not if you don’t fancy yourself a rebel. If you’ve got a story to tell, we want to hear it! Submit your story through our online form.

If you’re keen to have a go but aren’t sure where to start, why not come along to one of our writing workshops? These are led by an experienced writer and are designed to help you get pen to paper/fingers to keyboard. The workshops will be held at a number of locations across Scotland. Places are limited so if you’re interested in coming along, find out how to book your spot.

This year, for those that can’t make it along to one of the individual workshops, we will be holding a live streamed workshop on 21 April with award winning author Sara Sheridan via or Facebook page. If you fancy tuning in to get some helpful tips on how to get started with your writing then this is the perfect resource. More information on the workshop and how to get involved will appear on the Rebel section of the website very soon.

Your piece can be in any form you wish, poem, prose, letter – just make sure you keep it under 1,000 words (please don’t rebel against this). We encourage entries in Scots or Gaelic too – so if ye fancy haein a wee go in yer native tongue, that’d be awfy guid.

The deadline for entries is 6 June 2018.

For more information on our requirements, read our terms and conditions. Our favourite pieces will be published in an eBook as part of Book Week Scotland 2018.

To whet your rebellious appetites, we have a selection of pieces from some of our previous participants to read through.

Or read through stories from previous campaigns
