How to Take Part in our Facebook Live Creative Writing Workshop

Category: Reading

In 2018, we invite you to write about what the word 'Rebel' conjures up for you

Whether it's a tale from a misspent youth, a particularly indpendent pet, or the time you quit your job to pursue a dream, we want to read your real-life tales.

But, we realise how easy it is for us to type the above and how hard it can be to think of something to write about - especially if it's years since you wrote a story. That's why we offer creative writing workshops across Scotland to help inspire ideas, and get those words flowing.

This year, for the first time, we are delighted to offer one of these workshops, free, via Scottish Book Trust's Facebook page, using Facebook Live.

Whether you are curious about our Rebel campaign, already know about it but are struggling to think of a story, or just fancy spending a Saturday hour doing some creative writing with a top author, you are welcome to login to your Facebook account and join us on your phone, tablet, laptop or TV.

All abilities are welcome. All you need is a Facebook account, and to visit our Facebook page from 12:25 for a 12:30 start on Saturday 21 April. Our fantastic tutor, the author Sara Sheridan, will take care of the rest. We hope you will join us!

Visit our pre-show Facebook Live post to get a reminder when the show is about to start.

The Workshop

On the day, we'll have three learners in the room with Sara to discuss ideas and raise questions. However, Sara will also respond to your questions on the live-stream's comments, and there will be simple exercises you can choose to take part in.

We will cover everything from what 'Rebel' means to different people, to the more technical aspects of creative writing. By the end of the workshop you will have the first line of your story and all the tools you need to write the rest of it with confidence.
