Bookbug packs are free and full of brilliant books and goodies for you to share with your child. We hope you’ll enjoy exploring and developing a love of reading together at home.
Packs are given to every child in Scotland, from birth to Primary 1. Your child will receive four packs in total: Baby Pack, Toddler Pack, Pirate Pack and the P1 Family Pack. There are also Gaelic versions of each pack available.
You can find out more about what's in each of the packs by clicking below.
How do I get a pack?
The packs are free and you don't have to sign up to the Bookbug programme to receive them. Packs are given out in different ways depending on where you live. Typically, the Bookbug Baby pack is given out by Health Visitors in your baby’s first year. The Bookbug Toddler pack is also given out by the Heath Visitor when your child is aged between 1 and 2. The Bookbug Pirate pack is given out at nursery when your child is 3.
If you haven’t received a pack but you think you should have, your local Bookbug Co-ordinator will be able to help. There is a co-ordinator in each local authority to help make sure the Bookbug programme runs smoothly. Your Co-ordinator will be able to give you more information about how packs are given out in your area and help ensure you receive your pack as soon as possible. It's also worth checking with your local library- a number of branches have stock of packs on hand.
How do I contact my Bookbug Co-ordinator?
Take a look at our local contacts page and click on your local authority. At the top of this page, you’ll find a name, email address and telephone number for the Bookbug Co-ordinator in that area. Bookbug Co-ordinators are very happy to help with any questions about packs, Bookbug sessions or the Bookbug programme in general.
