Overview

Bookbug in Dundee (formerly Bookstart in Dundee) was launched in May 2000 in partnership with Dundee City Council, Leisure and Communities Department, Education Department and NHS Tayside and aims to provide free books to every baby, toddler, three year old and primary one child throughout the city.

 

Bookbug Pack Gifting

Bookbug Baby packs are gifted to parents and their babies by Health Visitors.

Bookbug Toddler packs are also handed out via Health Visitors at the 12 month check.

Bookbug Pirate packs are gifted to all 3 year olds in their ante pre-school year of nursery.

A small amount of all packs are held in the Central Library of the Wellgate and in local Community Libraries.

 

Bookbug’s Library Challenge

Bookbug’s Library Challenge runs in each of the 14 libraries in Dundee. It is a free programme for children aged birth to four - each time they visit the library they receive a stamp.. When they have collected 6 stamps  they will receive a lovely limited edition certificate.

 

Bookbug Sessions

Dundee at present runs 16 free, fun Bookbug Sessions in 12 of the city libraries. These sessions are for children aged birth to four and their parents, and feature songs, rhymes, books and play.
