Overview

East Lothian Council have a dedicated Early Years Library Co-ordinator in post, part-time.

Bookbug Pack Gifting

Bookbug Baby and Toddler packs are gifted by Health Visitors at the child’s developmental check and MMR respectively.

Bookbug Pirate Packs are gifted at nursery when children are 3 years old.

If any child misses their pack then they can request one from their local library.

Bookbug’s Library Challenge

This exciting free challenge runs in all East Lothian libraries, year round. Children can join this free programme at any age between 1 and 4 years.

Bookbug Sessions

Bookbug Sessions take place weekly in libraries throughout East Lothian. They are, mostly, held in the morning and last for about 30 – 40 minutes. The sessions are a mixture of rhyme, story and song with lots of opportunities for children and parents to have fun together. We use a good selection of puppets, instruments and if there is enough space, our stretchy lycra, to make the sessions as interactive as we can for the parents and children!

All staff taking our Bookbug Sessions have participated in the Scottish Book Trust training for Bookbug Session Leaders.

More information about session dates is available here.

Special Bookbug Events

We hold regular free special events such as Bookbug Day and World Book Day which are advertised throughout the community.
