Bookbug Primary 1 Family Bag

We are delighted to announce that Bookbug will once again be gifting a Bookbug Primary 1 Family Bag to every Primary 1 child in Scotland during Book Week Scotland 2015.

This Bookbug Bag will help to create a lasting link between reading at school and at home. Your child is learning to engage with a whole new world of stories and you too can open up an exciting world of reading at home by sharing the books in the Bag together.

You'll find some information below about the 2014 pack.

Teachers and librarians please click here for more information.

How do I get my Bookbug Primary 1 Family Bag?

All schools are encouraged to give out the Bag during Book Week Scotland in November, although this may vary.

We hope your child’s school will be in contact with you about the Bookbug Primary 1 Family Bag, but if you have yet to hear anything, please do contact your child’s school for more information.

What does the Bookbug Primary 1 Family Bag include?

This year’s Bag includes:

Three brilliant picture books – All shortlisted for the Scottish Children’s Book Awards

 The titles are:

An activity booklet - filled with games and activities for Primary 1 children and their families to do together.

Bookbug Colouring Pencils - six brightly coloured pencils that children can use for the games and activities in the activity pack.

Voting Slip - A voting slip for children to pick and vote for their favourite book.

Ziggy and Maggie Start School - A book from Road Safety Scotland introducing important road safety skills to primary 1 children.

Get involved with the Scottish Children's Book Awards

We want all primary 1 children to read the three shortlisted books in their Bag and vote for their favourite. We hope your child's school or local library is taking part in this year's awards, but if they're not, you can still submit your child's vote for their favourite book.

Simply send back the voting slip found in your child's Bookbug Primary 1 Family Pack to the freepost address for Scottish Book Trust.

There’s also lots more information about the Scottish Children’s Book Awards on our website including videos of the authors reading their books to help you share and enjoy the books with your child.

Scottish Book Trust is delighted to be working again with CALL Scotland who can provide accessible digital and audio versions of the Scottish Children’s Book Awards shortlist. For more information, please visit the accessibility page.

There’s also a special activity in the Primary 1 Bag Activity Booklet for children to do at their local library. If you or your child is not already a library member this is the perfect time to join and they have a great range of books to borrow for free.
