Movement and Music

Songs and rhymes are an important part of children’s learning and development.

 * The ability to keep a steady beat is a strong predictor of language skills
 * Songs and rhymes give children the opportunity to feel the beat through movement
 * Beat keeping helps us to identify cadence and rhythm of language. It also involves the vestibular system which contributes to movement and links with hearing and spatial awareness.
 * Movement and rhythm stimulates the frontal lobe which play an important part in language development but also in emotional regulation
