Case Study Package: Using the books of Peter Bently to inspire pupils

The Scottish Friendly Children's Book Tour with Peter Bently visited schools in Perth & Kinross and Stirling in March 2013. For teachers Nicola Kingslake (St. Madoes Primary) and Donna Bullivant (Cowie Primary) the author event itself was just the starting point. They both decided to build whole projects around their session creating dynamic lessons to really get their pupils excited about the author and their work.

Nicola decided to produce a dramatic enactment of Shark in the Dark with her P1 class: you can find the blog about her experience along with a video of the finished play below.

Donna took a different approach and had her pupils create advertisements and posters for the talent show in Farmer Clegg's Night Out which her P3 class then shared with their parents in school. She created a short Activity Sheet outlining her lessons which you can find below as well.

Preparing for an author

Nicola describes how she prepared for Peter's visit across the arts, getting the children to think about wider themes in Peter's work through drama and discussion.
