First Minister's Reading Challenge in Libraries
Scottish Book Trust is delivering an exciting new reading initiative for children in Primary 4 - 7 on behalf of the Scottish Government. We believe that reading has the power to change lives and developing a love of reading in childhood can have a huge impact on educational attainment and future wellbeing. The First Minister wants to make sure every child in Scotland has an equal opportunity to experience the huge benefits that reading for pleasure brings.
The First Minister’s Reading Challenge provides an opportunity for public libraries to collaborate with local schools to build a reading culture within their communities and encourage children to explore a range of books and develop a love of reading. The suggested reading recommendations, with over 300 titles to hook young readers in, is only the start for the Reading Challenge. Libraries offer a fantastic range of reading materials for children no matter what their interest or reading age.
Librarians and Teachers will be working together to fire children’s imaginations to enjoy books, and read widely, as part of the First Minister’s Reading Challenge. It’s a great opportunity for all children in Scotland to select from the world of books in their community to feed their young minds.
