Dan Smith: My Friend the Enemy
In October author Dan Smith parachuted into Edinburgh to talk about his brilliant debut children’s novel My Friend the Enemy.
Dan discussed with the pupils how he gets inspiration for and how he researched his novels. He took them through a step by step instructions on what to do when the air raid siren goes off and then we had an audio re-enactment of a real air raid. There were some bombs dropped and we watched a short advertisement on what to do if an incendiary bomb drops on your house!
There were some brilliant questions including "How many months does it take you to write a book?" (the answer is normally around four!) We also heard some fantastic stories from the pupils about their own families experiences of war.
