Book Week Scotland Roadshow with Marjolein Robertson
Bring brilliant comedian, improviser and storyteller Marjolein Robertson to your school!
We are delighted to bring brilliant comedian, improviser and storyteller Marjolein Robertson to secondary schools in Highlands, Argyll & Bute, North, East, South Ayshire and Dumfries & Galloway for a week of inspiring fully funded creative writing workshops.
Marjolein might be "Shetland's only female comedian". She first began performing live in Amsterdam, before training in improv in New York and making her Edinburgh Fringe debut in 2016. She has since taken her shows to America, Australia and New Zealand. She spends most of her time of Shetland and rural, island life is at the crux of her comedic style and sketches, which have featured on BBC's The Social.
Her sketches mix everyday Shetland life, covering everything from dating, gossip, driving and the confusing endless daylight, to the more otherworldly and weaving personal anecdotes around 19th Century folktales.
In this event, Marjolein will perform a short set of material before leading a workshop on writing stand-up comedy. This will involve a discussion on comedy, breaking down some of the jokes from her set, explaining how she got into comedy and how she learnt to write jokes. She will then show examples of her writing techniques before getting pupils to come up with an outline for their own stand-up routine on things they love and hate!
This is a brilliant opportunity to meet Shetland's only female comedy (probably) and inspire pupils to explore a new and exciting area of creative writing and encourage a renewed interest in different forms of creative writing and performance.
These events are fully funded and all secondary schools in Highlands, Argyll & Bute, North, East, South Ayshire and Dumfries & Galloway are invited to apply.
