What is the Scottish Friendly Children's Book Tour?
The Scottish Friendly Children's Book Tour brings authors and illustrators to a library, town hall or school near you.
The Scottish Friendly Children’s Book Tour takes the very best UK and international authors directly into schools across Scotland and the UK to inspire a love of reading, writing and illustration. Every year we go on 6 tours; four in Scotland and two in England visiting a vast range of different communities, from rural schools with an 8 pupil roll in Mouswald to 400 seat theatres in Glasgow.
We reach an average of 6,000 children every year. It takes us 3 years to visit all 32 local authorities in Scotland.
The programme has been sponsored by Scottish Friendly since 1998 and has toured amongst others: Malorie Blackman, Michael Rosen, Jacqueline Wilson, Melvin Burgess, Steve Cole, Michael Morpurgo, Chris Riddell and Sophie Mackenzie, meeting thousands of children across the country in the process. To find out more about the previous tours that we have done as well as seeing pictures and reading feedback from the children and teachers, please visit our Touring History page.
The Scottish Friendly Children's Book Tour has won several awards including Arts and Business Scotland Arts & Kids Award in 2005, Arts and Business Scotland Young People Award in 2010 as well as being highly commended in the Arts and Business Scotland Sustained Partnership Award in 2011 and 2012.
