STBP 2017: Competition Winners

Each year, as part of the Scottish Teenage Book Prize, we challenge students to create book trailers or comic strip adaptations of one of the STBP-shortlisted books. We received some incredible entries last year! After much deliberation, the winners were chosen. Check out the winning book trailer from St Joseph’s Academy in Kilmarnock, East Ayrshire and have a look at the winning comic strips below.

If you’re feeling inspired, why not give one of this year’s competitions a go? You can find out more information, as well as valuable resources to help you get started here.

Graphic Novel competition

For the first time ever, we asked students to create a comic strip adaptation of a single scene from one of the shortlisted titles.

We were amazed by the quality of the entries we received! Ultimately, though, we had to choose our top three finishers. And they are…

1st Place: Nicole Watt, Elgin Academy

2nd Place: Jaden Green, Forfar Academy

3rd Place: Morven Ross, Elgin Academy

These talented writers and artists will receive Waterstones vouchers worth £25, £15 and £10, respectively.

If you’re interested in having your students try their hands at creating comics, our fantastic resource from graphic novel creators Metaphrog will help guide pupils through each step of the process. For teachers and librarians looking to make the most of using comics in the classroom, this blog series by Adam Murphy will also be a big help.

Panel Event

Lornshill Academy in Clackmannanshire was the lucky recipient of the panel event. The three shortlisted authors met with students, talked about their books and answered questions in a thrilling event that was enjoyed by all!
