Chuck is a member of the Little River Band of Ottawa Indians. Their original territory was around the Great Lakes. His stories are from the oral tradition of the Little River Band. They are stories that tried to explain the world around them, so it is a glimpse into the lives they lived before the arrival of the Europeans. These stories are not as well known as those of the people from further west, like the Sioux, the Navajo, and the Hopi, so people enjoy hearing them for the first time.
Schools like him to come in when they have been studying Native Americans. They usually have studied the Plains Indians, as they are more well-documented. His stories show the differences there were in North America at that time.
