Tim Turnbull's headshot

I was born in North Yorkshire, but have lived in rural Perthshire for almost 20 years. I am author of three poetry collections, several pamphlets, two stage shows and a book of supernatural short stories, as well as having work in numerous magazine and anthologies.

In 2015, I was awarded a PhD in weird fiction writing from Northumbria University, and since 2017, the poem 'Ode on a Grayson Perry Urn' has been an A level set text in England. I am highly experienced in delivering workshops to adults in community settings including in three residencies in prisons, several major schools projects and the delivery of poetry and prose creative writing classes from beginners to post-graduate level. Work in schools and communities has led to publications and performances, and I have coordinated the production of adult learner-targeted material.

As well as educational work, I am a seasoned performer, appearing in theatres, at festivals and conferences across Britain. As a pioneer of the slam movement, I travelled the UK, USA and Germany reciting, performing and MCing for audiences large and small. I am happy to read and discuss my own and others' work and its literary context at any level. (Photo credit: Dougie Noble)
