10 Books About the LGBT Experience

Celebrate lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender lives and culture with a good book.

February is LGBT History Month, an opportunity to celebrate lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender lives and culture. Every year, LGBT Youth Scotland coordinates a range of arts, cultural and educational events across the country. Find out more at www.lgbthistory.org.uk

LGBT people have made a huge contribution to literature, especially in Scotland, so I hope that’s reflected in my list! I wanted to highlight the wealth of different experiences within the LGBT community. Comedy is my favourite genre, so I’ve included some funny books, too – Dykes to Watch Out For, A Queer and Pleasant Danger and Let’s Explore Diabetes With Owls all explore different parts of the LGBT experience whilst being laugh-out-loud hilarious!

LGBT History Month is an excellent opportunity for people to tell their own stories, and this year’s programme is packed with literary and storytelling events.
