Life as a Refugee

12 books to help you understand the refugee plight

With the current crisis in Europe, refugees have been much on most people's mind lately. But what seems to be missing from most of the stories and news broadcasts is a real exploration of what it's like to be a refugee. What is it like to be in a situation so dire you're willing to put yourself and your family in an overcrowded boat and travel to a strange land to start an entirely new life? These books help shed some light on that, with stories that range from heartbreaking and tragic to hopeful and triumphant.

You can now read stories written by refugees living in Scotland in our Stories of Home project
