Authors Live: Authentic Teens in YA

In this broadcast on Authentic Teens in Young Adult fiction (YA), authors Non Pratt and Melvin Burgess and vlogger Jean Menzies discuss everything from their pet peeves in YA and the language teens use, to the presence and absence of technology in contemporary books.

Note: this is a discussion about young adult fiction. We would ask that you to make your own judgement about its suitability for younger pupils.

If you only do one thing

We know that time is tight, so here is just one activity for you to do with your pupils before or after the broadcast.

Reading recommendations LIT 3-02a, LIT 3-10a, LIT 3-11a

At the end of the broadcast, ask young people to share their views on young adult fiction and recommend book titles to each other. Ask each to write and deliver a brief two minute presentation their chosen book. They should include why they love the book, why others should read it, and what makes it different to other young adult titles.
