Authors Live: Authentic Teens in YA

We were delighted to welcome three great guests for our first ever Authors Live panel event, which was all about the representation of teenagers in young adult fiction. Bestselling authors Non Pratt and Melvin Burgess, plus popular book vlogger Jean Menzies discussed everything from their pet peeves in YA and the language teens use, to the presence and absence of technology in contemporary books. Teenagers from across Scotland got involved by giving us their views and putting questions to our panel before sharing recommendations to inspire Scotland's teens to discover some fantastic YA fiction.

Tune in to hear our teens and guests weigh in on these topics, start a conversation in your class and get your pupils reading!

Please note that this is a discussion about young adult fiction, and as such we would ask you to make your own judgement about its suitability for younger secondary schools pupils who may not be reading YA yet.

We also have a great video learning resource from Jean Menzies to teach your pupils how to start vlogging – covering everything from brainstorming ideas to the technical kit you need to make a great video.
