Reading Hero Toby Bell

Eight year old Toby Bell from Inverness has been chosen as one of Book Week Scotland’s three Reading Heroes, nominated in the Most Committed Reader category for his dedication to the Beano and extensive collection of Beano comics and memorabilia.

Toby started his Beano collection in 2010, when he was just five years old. It now consists of 348 comics, including 20 annuals and 209 editions from the 1980s and 90s, many which were given to him by his uncle.  As well as comics, Toby also has a variety of Beano merchandise ranging from a duvet cover to jumpers and posters, and even his own Beano comic-making set. Not satisfied with just reading his favourite comic, Toby has featured in the Beano twice by decorating his bedroom and garden with all his memorabilia.
