If stories be the food of life, write on!
As part of our annual campaign to get Scotland writing we are asking primary and secondary pupils across the country to create a piece of personal writing inspired by the 2017 theme, Nourish!
Food can evoke memories, connect us with others, present difficult choices or simply set us up for the day – it can challenge and inspire us and offer nourishment beyond what’s on the plate.
Whether it’s school dinners, family recipes, favourite treats or learning about farming and where our food comes from, food plays an important part in everyone’s daily life and we hope Nourish will give your pupils lots of inspiration for their writing.
Entries can be up to 1000 words and in any form you like – story, poem, comic strip, play, letter or diary entry – and we welcome entries in English, Scots and Gaelic. The only rule is that this is a piece of personal writing, not an imaginative story.
Our favourite pieces of writing will be published in a special Nourish for Schools e-book for Book Week Scotland 2017.
The deadline for submissions to the project is Friday 6 October at 5pm.
