A Love Letter

By Shirley Cheng

Honey bunny, Mummy wants you to know that you don’t have to try to please everybody around you.

You can say or show how you truly feel.

I want you to be happy and be able to have the confidence to speak up for yourself.

I want you to be able to find happiness from within.

First, you need to be able to stay true to yourself.

You don’t need to say out loud to others how you feel.

You need to be able to say it to yourself, be confident in what you believe and accept who you are!

There’s time which I feel sorry for what happened to you because of my decision,

Nevertheless I will never regret the decision I made to leave your father and have the family we have now.

I am not a Fairy Godmother.

I am just your mom.

And you are no Princess.

And I don’t want you to become one.

But I can assure you that, there will always be your castle castle, the stronghold called your home which consists of:

A Silly Dragon who will always be there to protect us in his own silly way;

A Wee Knight who will always have a smile on his face like a warm summer sun even in the deepest winter like the day he was born.

A mother who doesn’t have a magic wand to make a pumpkin into a carriage, but who will never stop making hearty warm meals for you, and everyone.

And you, my honey bunny

I wish you can have a life like Alice in Wonderland.

To have dreams,

To put everyone behind and chase after your dreams,

To meet different people and accept them no matter what their shapes, sizes or colours.

To able to take a break when you need it,

To stand up for yourself and speak up when things don’t seem right to you.

Because, no matter what the ups and downs are,

How big or small you feel,

There will always be surprises in life,

Like the Cheshire Cat, never forget to smile.

We will always be there for you, because we love you!
