I trained as an actor, then became a research biologist. Mutating into a historic gardens consultant, I co-founded the National Botanic Garden of Wales and produced extensive surveys and master plans for historic gardens and landscapes including those at Brodick and Culzean Castles.
I am interested in art and nature, and the pasts we all live with. I am an experienced performer and reader of my work, and particularly enjoy engaging with people informally, for example in discussions, on walks, in workshops. Often using humour and pathos in my work, I like to reflect on the major forces and experiences that affect lives. I believe poetry must be much more musical and magical than normal speech.
