Formally a construction engineer before teaching Product and Graphic Design and Computing, I also have an Arts degree. I am the former President of the EIS teachers union in East Renfrewshire. I recently retired from teaching.

I was fortunate enough to be selected for inclusion in a joint exercise by the BBC and the Scottish Book Trust for Days Like These. I recorded a short story which has been broadcast by BBC Radio Scotland on several occasions. A shorter version of this story was published by The Guardian. My novel Torn Edges was published in 2012. Torn Edges is a Glasgow-based story with a backdrop of events in the Irish Civil war 1921-22. I also published Between Two Bridges in 2016, which is not a necessarily a follow up but features several of the main characters. Again based in Glasgow with a backdrop of prohibition in New York and Philadelphia.

I used this book in a meet the author event at the Glasgow CCA, and took part in Aye Write! at Arlington Baths on the topic 'Who are the Scots? Exploring challenges to national identity', where I spoke on the Scots-Irish connection.
