Since publishing my debut novel, The Rebel of Time, I have embarked on a quest to deliver my author workshop to as many young people as possible. I have visited schools across the country, aiming to showcase this Scottish story and provide young people living in this country with a chance to see themselves, their history, and their culture represented in a big, fun adventure novel.

As a fully qualified teacher with experience in ages 3 to 18, I’m confident about working in both primary and secondary settings. My school visits usually consist of a short talk where I explain the inspirations behind my work, a Q&A session where I answer any burning questions, and then finally the workshop itself. The activities utilise a comic-book format to teach character, dialogue, and how to visualise your ideas. This workshop is aimed at P6/7 and above but on request, I can adapt/create activities for any age/class. The Rebel of Time also has a comprehensive novel study pack for teachers. It is perfect for those working on themes of friendship (particularly positive male friendships) and finding your identity, as well as tying in significant historical periods (Wars of Independence, Picts and Romans, WW1, Renaissance period).
