Debbie Cannon's headshot

I’m a writer and performer, born in Dundee, and now living in Perth after seventeen years in Edinburgh. I love writing about women’s history, the Middle Ages (I also have a D.Phil in Medieval Studies) and early modern history, as well as scientific subjects such as dinosaurs and space. My writing is dramatic, but always has a strong vein of humour.

I mainly write for stage and have written, produced, and performed two solo shows: Green Knight is a re-telling of a medieval Arthurian adventure; The Remarkable Deliverances of Alice Thornton is based on the memoirs of a seventeenth-century Yorkshirewoman. In 2022, I was a mentored playwright with Playwrights’ Studio, Scotland. I also write prose fiction – in 2016, I was a Storyshop reader at Edinburgh International Book Festival and, in 2017, my children’s story about a dinsoaur was shortlisted for the Kelpies Prize. I have also adapted science-fiction audio-dramas, had comedy sketches performed on radio and stage, and have worked as a science communicator for Edinburgh Science Festival.

I have experience of and can offer –
