I am currently writing historical fiction based on facts around 17th century Scotland, consisting of a series of six books - four published, one being edited, and the final being written. The aim of this series is to share a time which is not widely known or understood, to show how history is not as far away as we think and still touches us today. Dialogue is in Scots which so far has been well received. Research involves site visits, museums, libraries, re-enactment events, and personal contacts.

I have experience of speaking events, visiting wide variety of groups, sharing the historical background to my writing, enhancing this with PowerPoint presentations, readings, and more. Speaking directly to an audience seems the best way to move forward.

Regular snippets appear on my Facebook page, written in Scots. I try to make this entertaining and so far am encouraged by a growing following. I have short stories published, several in Scots, and have also won a few competitions where the bonus has been reading to an audience. I am really just a storyteller who hopes to have readers and listeners. (Photo credit: Shirley Whiteside)
