Though I live in Scotland, my imagination is often half a world away. Many of my stories are set in Brazil or fictional locations: in a vast South American savanna, on a rock in the middle of the ocean or a moment long swallowed up in the mists of time. I write on an antediluvian machine disconnected from the distractions of the web. I have won awards including the Macallan/Scotland on Sunday Award, the Happenstance, Neil Gunn, and Woman's Own magazine prizes. My stories have been broadcast on BBC Radio 4 and published in translation in Brazilian Portuguese and Polish.

With over 15 years' experience of presenting talks, readings and teaching workshops for writers both aspirational and established, I'm always interested in new collaborative ideas. My workshops have helped school students, prisoners, writing groups, retirees, people from the travelling community, the frustrated, the timid and the stuck in a rut.
