My work is concerned with truth. My subject, in the main, is the people, culture, history and landscape of the North of Scotland. I do not consider myself locked into any particular locale but rather see what I create as a part of a world literature.
Caithness is fortunate in that it is a mix of Gaelic and Norse influence and this allows me to blend and expand both traditions. I see no real difference in poetry or drama as I believe poetry to be the language of the theatre. I also do not see 'poet' and 'playwright' to be contradictory terms but would argue that you have to have the soul of a poet before you can write successfully for the theatre.
I also do not believe in awards or competitions but I have been lucky enough to have been awarded bursaries from the Royal Literary Fund and the Scottish Arts Council in the past.
