I have an MBE for services to mental health and most of my creative work features mine and other peoples experience of mental ill health, human rights and compulsory treatment. However within this work I often include issues around relationships, love, the natural world, death and grief.

When my second memoir START was launched I delivered successful author events across Scotland. However, it is in my professional role in engagement and community development that I have gained most experience. I have run and facilitated various creative writing groups and workshops for people with mental health problems; delivered group readings and events at Mental Health and Arts Festivals and provided mental health awareness training using my story alongside others to mental health professionals, the public, the third sector, prisoners and young people to help people understand our lives.

I am used to running workshops and giving speeches and talks in groups from as small as four people to up to 300 people. I have appeared in the media, including the press, radio and television and am happy to continue to do so. I love the public side to creativity and manage to come slightly more alive than usual when performing!
