I have a great love for the outdoors, walking Scotland's great trails, exploring remote countryside or simply running in the back country around my home. My passion for the outdoors is matched only by my interest in history and I have spent my life in informal study of the events and people of Scotland's past.

I have written two books which reflect my interest in combining dramatic history with an adventurous outdoors experience. Charlie, Meg and Me is the story of my journey following the route of Bonnie Prince Charlie's flight after the Battle of Culloden. Along with my Border collie, Meg, I recreated this escape in a single 530-mile walk. I have also walked over 1,000 miles in a continuous journey, following in the footsteps of Robert the Bruce, Scotland's 14th century king. Bruce, Meg, and Me is the story of that expedition.

An accomplished orator, I have made a number of presentations at literary, history and outdoor festivals throughout Scotland. My walks and books have captured national media interest including STV, BBC Radio, and numerous daily newspapers. Based in Falkirk, I am married to Nicola and we have three daughters, two rabbits and Ben the border collie.
