Hadley-James Hoyles is a poet, musician, teacher and hack-handed woodcarver from Yorkshire, now resident in Scotland for ten years. He is the founder of The Alcove: Poetry in Edinburgh, an events organisation which runs poetry events across Edinburgh and the Central Belt, and the inaugural Makar of Teviot Row House in Edinburgh. He has published a pamphlet, Songs of the Hen Ogledd, and a collection, Ginnel and Snicket, along with publications across many journals and anthologies.

His work varies widely; rooted in the rural upbringing of his childhood, but gliding back through time to Ancient Britain, across the globe to Yemen, and upwards into the far-flung stars, Hadley’s work casts wide nets, and sometimes snares big eels.
His next works due to be published are a collection spanning Sub-Roman Britain to the early Saxon age, called A Ministry of Light, and a pamphlet about eczema, entitled Anabasis.
