I’m a Glasgow-based writer, editor, and publisher - originally from Rotherham, South Yorkshire - with a strong history of publication and public speaking. My short stories have been published internationally and my debut gothic novel, Orpheus Builds a Girl, was released in October 2022. My work is predominantly interested in the body, transformation, power, class and who controls a narrative, and I love talking about the gothic, dark fiction and how to write a truly horrible character.

Outside of fiction writing, I’ve worked in the publishing landscape for over a decade, as an editor, publisher, ghostwriter, podcast host, mentor and event chair.  I’m the co-founder and Editorial Director of Extra Teeth magazine, co-host of the Teenage Scream podcast (with author Kirsty Logan) and the Scottish Senior Policy & Liaison Manager for the Society of Authors, a trade union for writers. In 2021 I created the free-access Illustrated Freelancer’s Guide with artist Maria Stoian, which educates freelance creatives on their working rights and how to stand up for themselves and their peers, and I’ve given many talks around this topic.
