Louisa MacDougall's headshot

I am the author of three children’s fiction books: Rory and the Snack Dragons (the first in a chapter book series for age 6+), The Great Auk’s Great Escape and The Highland Cowgirl (picture books). My writing has been shortlisted for the Kelpies, Writing Magazine and Searchlight prizes.

My stories explore themes of friendship, determination and adventure and are inspired by rural family life (I live in the Outer Hebrides) and Scotland’s landscape and heritage.

Events aim to inspire and celebrate reading for pleasure. For younger children this can include songs, games, drama and crafting linked to one or all of my books, while older children’s sessions can focus on creative writing, particularly around environmental themes.

As a journalist, I am enthusiastic about news gathering and can also support learning around factual writing and media/newspaper projects.
