I was a journalist for nearly 20 years, and have spent my career listening to,
and telling, people’s stories. I wrote my first book - Spectacular Scottish
Women - because I wanted to show my daughters that Scotland is home to
strong, creative, and inspiring women. There wasn’t a book out there that did
this so I decided to do it myself. It’s a collection of 30 child-friendly
biographies, beautifully illustrated by Eilidh Muldoon, to celebrate the lives and
highlight the achievements of some of these incredible women.

My events, with teacher resources available, focus on the women in the book,
their different backgrounds and challenges they have overcome. Authors,
activists, musicians, scientists, sports stars, and Gaelic and Scots trailblazers
are all featured, from history to the present. There is something for everyone,
and children leave feeling inspired and ready to make their mark on the world.
I’m experienced at holding author events, including at festivals like
Edinburgh International Book Festival, and school events such as a virtual
International Women's Day celebration with 1,400 children from P4 to P7
through Scottish Book Trust.
