I am a writer and journalist working between Edinburgh and the Highlands. For my first book, The Ethical Carnivore, I only ate animals I killed myself, concluding that we should eat less meat for environmental and animal welfare concerns. It won two awards at the Guild of Food Writers Awards. For my second book, Avocado Anxiety, I explored the environmental impact of where our fruit and vegetables come from. It was shortlisted for the Saltire Society’s Non-Fiction Book of the Year and selected as a The Times Book of the Year and a The Guardian Book of the Month.

Recently, I have begun writing about the Highlands, where I help to run an estate in Torridon. I write a column for Scottish Field. I am interested in sharing my experiences in land management and conservation.

I have written for numerous publications, hosted podcasts and appeared on BBC television and radio. I can give workshops, talks and readings on the environment or writing for any age. I have chaired numerous authors and panels on food, farming and the environment. I am also available as a writing mentor to teenagers or adults. I am a mum and love working with older kids.
