I am a writer of creative non-fiction, at present working on a cultural history of ghost stories. Previous books include an Encyclopedia of Taboos and a motif-index examining disability in characters in traditional fiction.

Trained in literature, folklore and comparative mythology (PhD University of Edinburgh), I have taught courses in literature and mythology at the university's Open Studies department. A recent workshop focused on Jewish ghost lore.
