Much of my writing, both poetry and prose, draws on the experiences of travel. The importance of landscape, dreams, and spirit of place are also frequent themes. I've held writers residencies in France, Switzerland, Serbia and Croatia, and my work has been translated into several European languages.

Prizes and awards include the Audience Award (at the Terra Poetica Festival in Ukraine, 2014), the Autumn Voices Competition (2017), and a Pushcart Prize nomination (2018). I've published several books of poetry, fiction and non-fiction.

I have given readings, talks and workshops throughout the UK, and in Europe (France, Slovenia, Croatia, Bulgaria, Kosovo, Ukraine). Audiences have included school and university students, and writers. Subjects have included creative writing, both poetry and prose, and the work of other writers, including Robert Burns, William Stafford and Edward Lear. Current projects include collaborating with European writers, translating and editing their work. I'm also writing a novel about the Swiss writer and traveller Annemarie Schwarzenbach.
