R L McKinney's headshot

I am a writer of contemporary fiction, a community development practitioner and a trained counsellor. In addition to writing for publication, I am passionate about supporting people to write for personal empowerment and therapeutic purposes. I also go by Rebecca McKinney.

I've always believed that the best fiction shows the truth of what it means to be a human being. The common thread that runs through all of my writing is the individual's struggle to make peace with a contentious life.

I have published two novels: The Angel in the Stone (2017), which was shortlisted for the Highland Book Prize, and Blast Radius (2015), as well as a number of short stories and poems. I have been involved with organising the first Literally Newbattle Book Festival at Newbattle Abbey College in Dalkeith, taught creative writing in community settings and have worked with community groups and organisations for many years.
