I am a novelist and short story writer with a professional background teaching adults and am holder of a Certificate in Training Practice. My historical novel The Second Sight of Zachary Cloudesley was published by Doubleday in June 2022 and

has since been longlisted for the Walter Scott Prize for historical fiction and shortlisted for the Saltire Prize First Book of the Year. My new novel, A Woman of Opinion will be published by Transworld (Doubleday/Penguin) in summer 2024. My short stories have won a number of awards, including the Manchester Fiction Prize and the Fish short story prize, as well as being runner-up in the Bridport and Tom-Gallon Trust prizes.

I am experienced in running a variety of creative writing workshops, as well as in mentoring students on undergraduate and masters courses. I will be running a masterclass online for Moniack Mhor (October 2023) and speak regularly at festivals in Scotland and beyond, as well as chairing panel discussions and author events, most recently at the Nairn Book and Arts Festival. I am happy to do events for any number, whether in bookshops, libraries or at festivals, as well as creating engaging and enjoyable writing workshops and courses.
