I am from Glasgow and write fiction for adults and children in Scottish Gaelic. I was selected as Scottish Book Trust’s Gaelic New Writers Awardee for 2022. I won Gaelic Literature Awards for Best Unpublished Manuscript for Children in 2020 and 2023 and my work has appeared in New Writing Scotland, Northwords Now and Causeway/Cabhsair.

My first novel for adults, a thriller called Far na Slighe, was published by Luath Press in 2024 and a humorous book aimed at children aged 6-8, Ailig agus an Dalek Gàidhlig, is forthcoming from Acair Ltd.

I have appeared at various literary events including the Paisley Book Festival, the Nairn Book and Arts Festival and Creative Conversations at the University of Glasgow.

I also run monthly online Gaelic creative writing sessions for adults through Open Book, with each session being adapted to suit the Gaelic ability of attendees.

I also go by Shelagh Chaimbeul.
