Shona MacLean's headshot

From a background in historical research, I moved to writing historical crime fiction. To date I have published seven novels over two series - one set mainly in 17th century Scotland, the other in the 1650s London of Oliver Cromwell - under the name S. G. MacLean. My work has been longlisted for the Desmond Elliott award and the Dagger in the Library, shortlisted for the Saltire First Book Award, and won the CWA Historical Dagger.

I give readings from my work with talks on my research and writing process. I have taught two courses of historical fiction at Moniack Mhor, and delivered writing workshops to schools groups, festival patrons, and senior citizens' groups. I have also taken part in numerous panel events at literary festivals across the country. (Photo credit: Ewen Weatherspoon)
