Sumayya Usmani is an award-winning author and broadcaster based in Glasgow. With three published books, including two award-winning cookbooks and a Scottish Book Trust Next Chapter award-winning food memoir, Sumayya brings a unique perspective on Pakistani cuisine, culture, and migration to her work. A regular panellist on BBC Radio 4's "The Kitchen Cabinet" and former columnist for the Sunday Herald, Sumayya engages audiences with her warm, insightful storytelling. She has extensive experience in literary festivals, having featured at Edinburgh Book Festival, Aye Write, Cheltenham, Berwick and Wigtown, among others. Sumayya offers engaging talks, cookery demonstrations and writing workshops that explore themes of food, identity, and cultural exchange. Her events can be tailored for diverse audiences, from aspiring writers to food enthusiasts. As a writing mentor and PhD Creative Writing candidate at the University of Glasgow, Sumayya also conducts workshops on food writing, memoir and creative non-fiction. With her background in law and social entrepreneurship, she brings a multifaceted approach to discussions on career transitions, diversity in writing and the intersection of food and literature.
