I am a writer and lexicographer, working both in English and Scots. I was one of the co-founders and original writers for Itchy Coo Books, which was launched in 2002 with funding from the Scottish Arts Council. I have written over 15 books for children in Scots, including the award-winning Animal ABC, and The Derk Isle, the first Scots translation of Tintin.
I have taught classes and workshops on the Scots language to children and adults, and to audiences ranging from primary schools to university students. I also write dictionaries and thesauruses (both Scots and English), especially for children. I am the author of the Oxford Primary Dictionary and Thesaurus, and most recently of the bestselling Oxford Roald Dahl Dictionary and Rotsome Words. (Photo credit: Rob MacKillop)
