About Reek

When the earth's atmosphere is rendered toxic by a climate catastrophe known as 'the Reek', the citizens of an imagined future Edinburgh must purchase clean air from the only supplier – the nefarious Zephyr Industries, whose CEO is getting richer as people struggle to afford the right to breathe. 12-year-old Sparrow is working hard delivering packages to earn enough money to support her family, until her brilliant inventor friend comes up with a new way to filter the harmful air and make it breathable – for free! But Zephyr Industries have profits to protect, and they don't plan to let a ragtag gang of fiesty children, eccentric inventors, and unlikely friends get in their way. . .

Reek crafts a vivid and unsettling picture of a future where profit comes before the planet, encouraging young readers to think critically about the world around them and its power structures, the importance of protecting our natural resources, and the role that individuals can play in advocating for change. Brought to life by superb illustrations by George Caltsoudas, this is a dynamic dystopian read that will leave you gasping for air!
