We are very much looking forward to Book Week Scotland 2024, taking place on 18–24 November.
Every year, organisations have the opportunity to apply for funding to support an event during Book Week Scotland. Our aim is to support a range of events for communities all over Scotland, with wide geographical spread including cities, towns and rural areas. We seek to support partners hosting events that engage new audiences, make connections to reading and writing for participants and support groups in their local communities. Book Week Scotland events are often in unexpected spaces and participatory, bringing books and reading together with other art forms and activities.
We’re excited to share a taster of what is in store for November. Events will take place in every local authority across Scotland and will span topics and interests ranging from arts, poetry and photography to music, food, nature and languages. Event partners for this year range from community groups supporting carers, people of colour and people facing poverty, to women’s groups, writing groups, independent bookshops and publishers, faith organisations, universities and colleges, libraries and gardens.
We would like to thank each and every organisation that submitted an application. This year we received an unprecedented volume of applications and, combined with a significant cut to Book Week Scotland funding in 2023 and standstill funding for 2024, we are only able to fund just over a third of event applications. We will be listing funded events and other events scheduled to take place during Book Week Scotland on our website, so watch this space for more details in October when we launch our programme. There will also be many events taking place in libraries as every Library Service is separately offered funding to put on events in their local authority courtesy of Scottish Libraries & Information Council (SLIC).
We are grateful to Creative Scotland and SLIC for their continued support.
